Anima Flux Preview

I consider myself well versed in 2D side scrollers whether they be platformers, horror games, metroidvanias or anything in between, so when I checked out the Anima Flux demo on Steam I knew there was a chance I’d like it. So let me get into the weeds on this one.

Anima Flux is a co op metroidvania set in a Sci-fi world where the only Human populated city on the space ark has become the victim of a mutant invasion. In single player(and in the demo at least)you can rotate between two genetically enhanced soldiers, Roy and Eileen. Roy’s game play is based around hack n slash with his sword and Eileen’s is a distance attack based around her bow.

While I only played in single player mode there is a 2 player co op mode. As of now it appears you will only have the two characters I mentioned earlier and for anyone wondering the game only advertises Local/Couch co op on all the on line listings I looked up. So if you’re looking for online play at this time that appears to be a no go. Personally this could be a mistake as even two player co op games like 20XX have this feature but if the game is popular enough maybe the feature could be added

Anima Flux soundtrack and visuals at times remains me of an 80’s or early 90’s action movie in the best of ways. There’s only dialog boxes(no spoken dialog) which helps get you to the action faster. You’ll collect currency which you can use to purchase health, shields, maps and various other things.

Since the Demo gets you to and through the first boss it’s hard to say how it will shape up but what I’ve played so far was very good and makes me think the rest of it could be very promising. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel in anyway but a I’ve said before games don’t have to. We will find that out on October 7th of this year when it launches on Steam and GOG for PC. It’s also noted as coming to all the consoles(PS5, Xbox Series X/S and switch) at a later date. Will you be checking this out? Comment below.
